What Does Teaser Mean

Teasers betting is something not all bettors are aware of, yet it is an option that allows you to boost your chances of winning a bet featuring multiple selections (albeit at reduced odds). How do Teaser bets work, what are their payouts and what Teasers betting does Pinnacle offer? Read on to find out.

A teaser is basically a bet that two (or more) teams will come within a touchdown of covering the spread. What's not to love, right? A standard teaser offers seven points on football spreads, and five points on totals. The odds vary but are usually no better than -120 for a two team teaser. A person or thing that teases. A drapery or flat piece across the top of the proscenium arch that masks the flies and that, together with the tormentors, forms a frame for the stage opening. An advertisement that lures customers or clients by offering a bonus, gift, or the like. A teaser (or a 'two-team teaser') is a type of gambling bet that allows the bettor to combine his bets on two different games. The bettor can adjust the point spreads for the two games, but realizes a lower return on the bets in the event of a win. A teaser is a type of wager used in sports betting, most commonly in basketball and football.

Teasers betting explained

In Teasers betting, the bettor receives a specified favourable point adjustment for every selection of a multiple selection bet, with the bet then also set at a fixed payout.

Teaser bet example

Here is how a six-point Teaser bet would work on Super Bowl LIV contested between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers:

Market

Points set for regular bet

Points set for six-point Teaser bet

Kansas City Chiefs (Handicap)

+2.5

+8.5

San Francisco 49ers (Handicap)

-2.5

+3.5

Over/Under

45.5

Over 39.5, Under 51.5

What is the legal age for gambling in oklahoma. As you can see, if somebody wanted to bet on the Handicap for the Kansas City Chiefs, they would move from a +2.5 underdog to a +8.5 (2.5 + 6) underdog, greatly increasing the chance of winning this selection. Equally, the Handicap on the San Francisco 49ers would move from -2.5 favourites to +3.5 (-2.5 + 6) underdogs.

For Over/Under bets, Teaser bets open up two separate markets to assist your bet. In this instance, when the Over/Under was set at 45.5, this would move to Over 39.5 (45.5 - 6) and Under 51.5 (45.5 + 6), essentially boosting your chances of winning by six points either way.

All of this does come with a reduced and fixed payout. If someone was to place a €100 Multiple bet on either team to win on the Handicap in one game and the Over/Under for another game, the payout would likely be around €365 (€265 profit), based on odds of -110 / 1.909 for each selection. However, the same bet with a six-point Teaser would have a lower payout with combined odds of -110 / 1.909, meaning that a €100 bet would only win €190.90 (€90.90 profit).

Teasers betting rules: Things to consider

There are several things you need to remember when placing a Teaser bet with Pinnacle. Most frequently, this relates to what happens when a tie occurs in at least one of your selections that form the bet or any are deemed to have no action.

Teaser bet ties

In the instance of a tie, on both football and basketball Teaser bets involving three teams or more, the selection(s) are removed and the payout is adjusted accordingly. For instance, a Teaser bet involving four teams would be reduced to three teams.

For football and basketball Teaser bets involving just two teams, when at least one selection is a tie or deemed to have no action, the entire bet is considered a push and all money is refunded. If any selection of a Super Teaser bet is a tie or deemed to have no action, the entire bet is graded as no action and all money is refunded irrespective of the number of teams involved.

Teaser bet base Handicap adjustments

On certain occasions, the point adjustment for Teaser bets may also be different than what you are expecting if the base Handicap for a Teaser has been moved to a different Handicap. This is because in some situations, Pinnacle has to limit our exposure and thus cannot allow unlimited Teaser bets to be placed at certain prices.

For instance, if for an NFL game the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks were set at Handicaps of -7.5 and +7.5 respectively (a base Handicap of 7.5), Pinnacle may move the base Handicap to 9.5 to offer six-point Teaser bets.

As a result, the Teaser bet Handicaps set would be Green Bay Packers at -3.5 and Seattle Seahawks at +3.5 as opposed to Green Bay Packers at -1.5 and Seattle Seahawks at +1.5 that you would ordinarily expect.

A teaser is a sports bet that is similar to placing a parlay bet. Both types of wagers are made by selecting two or more events to occur. Like a traditional parlay, each event selected for a teaser must win in order for the player to win to win the bet.

All multi-event wagers have the potential for larger wins but teasers don't pay as much as a parlay. The attraction to teasers might be that they appear easier to win.

The main item that separates a teaser from a traditional parlay is that a bettor may alter point spreads and over/under totals between 4 and 10 points depending on the sport and teaser. Changing the point spread and point total make the wagers appear to be easier to win.

Winning multiple bets, no matter the point spread is never easy. However, the adjusted lines should help bettors find a little more confidence in their bets. The payout from the sportsbook for a teaser is lower than a parlay since these are anecdotally easier to win.

How a teaser works

A teaser isn't too difficult to understand after seeing how the point moving works. The easiest way to comprehend a teaser is to see an example. For simplicity, we'll use a six-point teaser for football games:

Original wager options:

  • New England Patriots +3 (-110) at Kansas City Chiefs
  • Los Angeles Rams +3 (even) at New Orleans Saints

A two-team six-point teaser on the underdogs would change the point spreads to the following:

What
  • New England Patriots +9 at Kansas City Chiefs
  • Los Angeles Rams +9 at New Orleans Saints

A two-team six-point teaser on the favorites would change the point spreads to the following:

  • New England Patriots at Kansas City Chiefs +3
  • Los Angeles Rams at New Orleans Saints +3

A $10 parlay with the original point spreads would pay approximately $27.70. A $10 six-point teaser would pay $8.35. The same teaser will pay less if the point spreads or totals are teased by 6.5 or 7 points.

The process for selecting totals on a teaser is similar.

All sportsbooks offer a variety of teaser cards for football season. Football games can be teased by 6, 6.5, or 7 points. Some casinos offer 10 point teasers but only for a total of three sides and/or totals.

Sportsbooks offer teasers for basketball as well. However, they offer fewer basketball teaser cards than football. Basketball games can be teased by 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, or 6 points.

Placing a teaser in person

A teaser in a land-based casino can be done in two ways. Mrgreen com free spins. A player simply can tell the ticket writer how much they'd like to wager, how many points they'd like to tease and the point spread and totals that they would like to tease. It's rare to see a person bet a teaser in person like this.

The in-person process can be confusing and time-consuming. Most teaser bets in land-based casinos are placed using a teaser card. Filling out a card in advance of visiting the sportsbook desk is a quick way to complete the transaction since all of the information is already filled in.

Casinos offer a variety of parlay and teaser cards. Make sure to read the rules and payout before choosing a card.

Betting teaser cards

Casino operators have different computer systems for parlays and teasers so the process might be different at certain casinos. Most teaser cards have fixed point spreads and Over/Under totals. In this case, the information on the card won't change when a teaser bet is placed.

Some sportsbook operators might use a 'live line' even though a teaser card lists a specific line from the morning. This allows the casino to change the point spread or point total based on what the current line is when the teaser is placed.

The ticket writer will ask the player if they're okay with the changes before finalizing the bet. This process can be intimidating for new bettors when a sportsbook is busy and the lines are long. Bettors don't have to accept the new lines and shouldn't be afraid to decline the line changes.

Placing a teaser at an online sportsbook

Placing a teaser at an online sportsbook might be the easiest way to make this kind of wager. A teaser can be made simply by selecting the teams and totals, selecting 'teaser,' and choose how many points to tease.

Online teaser cards make the process even more simple. The teaser card will show the adjusted point spreads and totals for each card. The player simply chooses between two and eight sides or totals then selects how much they'd like to wager. Just enter 'submit' and confirm the bet. That's all it takes to bet a teaser online.

Teaser Payouts

Once a bet is placed, the odds paid remain fixed no matter what computer system a sportsbook uses. Teaser payouts are smaller than traditional parlays.

For example, a two-team point spread parlay might pay 2 to 1 odds if both events are winners for the player. Meanwhile, a two-team teaser might pay -110 if both events are winners.

The more points used to tease lines, the less the payout will be. A six-point teaser might return 10-11, while a 6.5-point teaser only returns 10-12, and a seven-point teaser returns 10-13.
